New track roundup: Dead Split Egos, Welfare Beer League, IM Cunj, The Tossers

Phil Collins - February 13, 2017

Ecdysis

There are a handful of new local punk tracks to talk about so let's get right into it. Dead Split Egos have two songs up from their upcoming release, Ecdysis. "Guilt" and "Solace" are streaming on Bandcamp now. Dead Split Egos play dark hardcore in the vein of Refused. "Guilt" features tag team split vocals from members of the band and Rob Tomasek of local hardcore/metal band LUCA. "Solace" is a quicker track that can be summed up with the line "self acceptance is not self love." I saw Dead Split Egos play at the Other Side Tattoo shop on Saturday night and they put on a memorable show. Definitely check them out live if you get a chance and look for the release of Ecdysis this Friday. Dead Split Egos play a release show on March 4 at Royal Skate & Apparel in Lansing with LUCA, Grieve, Backbone, Ghost of a Dead Hummingbird, As We Once Were and Will Apgar. More information on that show here. Stream "Guilt" and "Solace" below.

Local pop punkers Welfare Beer League are streaming "Lost My Buzz" off their upcoming EP. This will be their second release following last year's Day Off! EP. No word on a title or release date for the new EP yet, but for now you can enjoy a catchy jam about an age-old problem. Stream "Lost My Buzz" below.

IM Cunj released "Canvas & Carnage" from the forthcoming album Aggressive Jazz. This is a more straightforward punk song, compared to IM Cunj's experimental 2015 album, The Key to the Haunted Mind. The new album is coming out on limited edition cassette through Brown Bear Records in June. Connor McNerney of Seasonal Men's Wear fame is the main man behind IM Cunj. Fellow SMW member Jake Joyce recorded drums on Aggressive Jazz. Stream "Canvas & Carnage" below.

Irish punk stalwarts and Chicago Southsiders the Tossers released "Erin Go Bragh," the first listen from their new album Smash the Windows. This will be the Tossers' ninth(?) full-length album and first album with their new violinist, Emily Ruth Constantinou. "Erin Go Bragh" delivers the upbeat beer-swigging soundtrack fans will be looking for. Smash the Windows comes out on March 3rd on Victory Records. The Tossers play at the Metro on March 17 with Gallows Bound, the Avondale Ramblers and the Siderunners. This will be the Tossers' 40th show at the Metro, according to their Facebook page. Stream "Erin Go Bragh" below.
