New track roundup: The Land Before Tim, Winter Classic, Meat Wave, Sons of Ra

Phil Collins - December 1, 2016

A few new tracks recently hit the web from our local Chicago scene. First up, ska punks The Land Before Tim released "Charlene," a single off a forthcoming album. This fits in the goofy fun ska tradition of Reel Big Fish or Save Ferris, with bright horns and lyrics about demons coming through a portal. Stream it below or head to the band's bandcamp page for a pay what you want download.

Winter Classic Boss Fight split

Winter Classic released "Coffee Stains" off their upcoming split with fellow locals Boss Fight. That record release show is coming up on December 17 at Subterranean with Winter Classic, Boss Fight, Lifted Bells and What Gives. More information on that show here. The record will be out on a run of 500 black vinyl 10-inches. Winter Classic and Boss Fight each have four songs on the record. Gruff vocals give "Coffee Stains" a bite. The song closes with a solid instrumental finish. Stream "Coffee Stains" over at New Noise Magazine.

Meat Wave released a lyric video for "The Incessant." This is the title track off their new album, coming out next year on SideOneDummy Records. The song continues the broody, spiralling sound that pervaded much of last year's Delusion Moon. The searching guitar lines keep drawing me back into those songs and it sounds like that will be the case again on this next album. Watch the lyric video below. Meat Wave play Ian's Party, which takes place January 6 - 8 at Double Door and Subterranean. They also have a show at the Empty Bottle on February 25.

Sons of Ra have two new tracks up from their upcoming release Anthropology. "AntiFragile" and "Persona Non Grata" are perhaps best described as experimental metal. They are wandering, building, surprising instrumental tracks. There certainly is metal in there, but the band is clearly comfortable venturing outside of that box. Anthropology is out digitally and on limited edition CD on December 18. Stream "AntiFragile" and "Persona Non Grata" below. Sons of Ra play their record release show at Reggies Music Joint on December 16 with Pavlov3, Faces of the Bog and We Killed the Lion. More information on that show here.
